The First Holy Communion Committee guides children on their faith journey, helping them to walk by faith and not by sight. Our mission is to prepare children to receive the Eucharist with understanding and reverence, fostering a lifelong relationship with God and encouraging trust in His work in their lives.

Over the past two years, the committee has welcomed and prepared over 220 children from Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral Parish to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. In 2024, 112 children received the sacraments across two Masses, and in 2025, 108 children completed the program. The children represent at least 18 different schools from Catholic, selective, private, and state systems, and include Maronite, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox students.

The sacramental program spans several months, with weekly lessons held on Wednesday afternoons. Children attend sessions of 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours, while parents participate in three sessions led by a priest or deacon, deepening their own understanding and supporting their children’s preparation.

On the day of the celebration, parishioners, family members, and friends gather in joy to witness the children receive the sacraments. Each child is presented with a Certificate of Completion, a Holy Bible, a Scapular, and Rosary beads, creating a lasting keepsake of this sacred milestone.

In 2025, 44 First Holy Communion children also participated in the Corpus Christi celebrations, wearing white gowns and taking part in Adoration and the Eucharistic procession, offering a powerful witness to their growing love for Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

Looking ahead to 2026, the committee plans to welcome another large group of children, introduce Eucharistic Adoration prior to First Communion, and continue to involve children in Corpus Christi celebrations, further enriching their understanding and reverence for the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
